Yesterday we were picking up a few groceries from downtown Gloucester and as we cruised by the marshmallows, Nic's Uruguayan cousin Gabby mentioned that she had never had a s'more. This of course was not acceptable so I did the patriotic and diplomatic thing and bought a bag of jet puffed marshmallows, a box of Honey Maid graham crackers and a large bar of ghirardelli dark chocolate so we could make s'mores that night. Late last night after a great summer feast at the house, Nic fired up the grill and we got our s'more on.
As I had hoped, our international guest was not disappointed and totally converted to a s'more lover.
You too can charm international visitors and city kids alike with your s'more assembling skills, just read the below pitfalls and enhancements for optimal s'more creation...
1. Graham Crackers: whatever you do, Do NOT buy generic grocery store Graham crackers. You must buy Honey Maid. Nic and I made this mistake last summer and soon realized that generic graham crackers fall apart, get stale and don't hold together enough for proper s'more creation. Just don't do it.
2. Marshmallows: regular sized marshmallows, any brand generic or otherwise is fine.
3. Chocolate: class it up! Spend an extra buck or two and get yourself some nice chocolate - it will bring your s'mores to the next level. We bought some 72% dark Ghirardelli chocolate and it really elevated the quality and taste of our s'mores.
So go ahead, make a s'more and be a crazy s'more lady like me!
