Halloween Costume Ideas?

For ladies over the age of 9, Halloween costumes are tricky territory! It's really hard to be creative, comfortable and still look remotely cute. Here are some common pitfalls that are easy to fall prey to when coming up with a "perfect" halloween costume...

Pitfall #1: Sexified nostalgic costumes from your youth. You thought you had this AMAZING costume idea from your favorite book/cartoon/character when you were a child and you were going to be the hit of a party with this cool pop-culture reference. BUT then you walk into a party store and find your uber creative idea has been, gasp, slutted out and mass produced...

Example 1: The Sexy Care Bear ---

Example 2: The Sexy Ninja Turtle ---

Pitfall #2: The Super Un-cute Costume. In order to avoid tarnishing your G-rated Care Bear memories you shun the uber-slutty costumes and opt for creativity, humor, scare-factor or just a longer hemline. BUT you end up arriving at the party and look... UN - CUTE!!!!!

AHHHHHH!!!!!! The Horror!!!!

So what's a girl to do??? Beats me, Halloween costume ideas are hard to come by! I still don't know what I'm going to be this year. I'll probably just grab an accessory and call it a night but in case you need a little inspiration here are a few of my faves from years past...

Zoolander's "Derelicte"

W. Axel Rose and Slash

Toga Party

Adapted Child-Size Spiderman Costume

The Village People

Got any good ideas for me???
I can only seem to find funny ones for tiny people...

  1. Love this post, Charlotte! You are so right about everything being sluttified, gross! The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle costume made me laugh because my friends and I did that a few years ago-- but an un-slutty version, more like a kids' costume sized up to adult!

  2. Hahaha, awesome! Teenage mutant ninja turtles are kind of the best!
